Review of Ruler Fractions and Mixed Numbers Course

The Review of Ruler Fractions and Mixed Numbers Course is, essentially, a shop math course which helps program participants to prepare, in the short term, for shop activities (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, etc.); and in the long term, for the various pre-employment tests given by unions, public utilities and authorities, and other employers.  Because the overwhelming majority of people who enroll in pre-apprenticeship training programs in New York City don't know how to "read" and use a ruler or a professional measuring tape (in addition to having spotty fraction problem-solving skills), the focus of the Course, Review of Ruler Fractions and Mixed Numbers, is intentionally narrow.  Nevertheless, it is a rigorous course of study:  the participants take entry- and exit-level Skills Assessments, and twice-daily Ruler Quizzes.  A spreadsheet of scores can be maintained and used by directors to evaluate students' performance for the purpose of referring them to employment opportunities upon graduation from the training program.  The recommend pre-requisite for the Review of Ruler Fractions and Mixed Numbers Course is prior attendance at a Day of Remediation-Math.
