Several years ago we
lost classroom and office space we'd been able to use through the generosity of
an occupational-training program with which we'd been collaborating.
Helicon, Inc.
has never, during the thirteen years we've existed, been able to get general operating expenses which would, among other things, enable us to pay
rent somewhere. It's not for our lack
of trying to get funding; but for some reason, foundations don't think that our
mission is important enough to support and, consequently, almost every proposal
of the hundreds we've submitted has
been rejected. (Some of our board
members think that foundations—and the society they represent—are actually
frightened at the idea of women, en masse, acquiring the power of
mathematics. What do you think?)
As you can see
(if you go to the Test Prep Center and/or Educational Materials Available pages
of this website), we're hoping that training programs and individuals around
the country will be interested in licensing or buying materials that have
helped so many people here in New York City learn math and achieve success in their
respective goals. All revenue we
receive will be used to support our activities in New York City; first thing
we're going to do is rent classroom and office space.
In the
meantime, we'd love to start offering
some classes again (e.g., Day of Remediation—Math, TABE Math Prep Class, and
the Female Math Course) but we still don't have space or money for rent. So, if anyone knows of any available
space we could use as a classroom, please…Contact Us!
